Background
Review By: Jon Dudzinski
Chad Johnston is one of those video producers who is always thought of as making some of the best videos ever. After Chad's great success with Infinite Pieces, everyone was itching to see Background.
With 26 riders in this video, you automatically know that it is going to rock. Terry Adams had some cool back wheel time machine links. Stephen Cerra was really going off with the best stuff I have ever seen him do like an upside-down pedaling megaspin where he lets the seat hit the ground and does 2 full rotations spinning like a top on the seat. Phil Dolan's section is packed with his best slow links that roll for whole parking lots. Anthony Durbano does some front wheel stuff like his g-turn where he crosses his arms and spins in a forward hang-5 on the pedals. Chad Johnston shows that he has more than just camera skills by doing some cool deathtruck stuff. Alex Jumelin rides faster than ever with a front wheel double decade and a 540 barflip out of side squeak (it's in his last link, watch closely). Martti Kouppa does some cool cliffhanger stuff where he actually throws a full 360 barflip in a spinning cliffhanger. Mike MacPhaden hits some really cool turbines. Lee Musselwhite gets creative with a cross footed one handed spastic fork wheelie that goes forever. Akira Okamura hits his stuff like his rolling barflips in steamrollers. Nathan Penonzek rides better than ever with some really long and fast paced front and back wheel links. Ken 'Tagi' Sakatakahata became one of my favorite riders after watching his part. He has some great stuff like inside circle-k rolling barflips and some other mind blowing stuff. Michael Sommer does his 540 barflip into a steamroller and some creative fork wheelie links. There is too much James White if you ask me. Matt Wilhelm has some spinning stuff (what a surprise) like a pedaling, spinning deathtruck straight into an upside-down pedaling megaspin. Kotaro Tanaka switches from the back wheel to the front in one link. Takashi Ito does his jump around the bars and spin half-hiker. Jeff DesRoche hits stuff like a steamroller on the pedal and a 360 barflip out of a karl cruiser.
The video quality in Background is pretty good. It's deffinatly not up there with Flatland Manifesto and Groundwork, but it's up there. Some people say that it is a big improvement over Infinite Pieces.
The soundtrack is great. I love it. Everything goes perfectly with the riding. I can't believe how nicely it goes with the riding. Very good soundtrack.
